Tragic Fire at Swiss Ski Bar Claims Dozens

Images have emerged revealing the interior of a bar located in a popular Swiss ski resort, where numerous individuals have tragically lost their lives. Approximately 40 people are feared dead, and around 100 others are reported to have sustained injuries following a devastating fire that engulfed Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, Valais, Switzerland during New Year celebrations.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the victims involved in the incident at Le Constellation in Crans-Montana, Valais, during a New Year’s Eve festivity. Speculations suggest that tourists may be among the casualties and the wounded. Witnesses have described seeing a large number of individuals being evacuated after the fire ravaged the establishment, primarily located in a basement with only one entrance and exit.

The bar, Le Constellation, is a renowned establishment in the region and is known for its vibrant atmosphere with purple lighting and a central bar. Local sources indicate that it attracts a young clientele and is considered a longstanding institution with a history spanning at least 40 years.

BBC reporter Silvia Costeloe remarked that while many bars in the area are luxurious, Le Constellation stands out for its size and layout, featuring an upstairs area with TV screens for sports viewing and a spacious bar downstairs for socializing.

Initial reports suggest a possible explosion preceding the fire around 1:30 am, potentially triggered by a firework, although authorities have refrained from speculating on the cause at this stage.

Frederic Gisler, the police commander for Valais Canton, mentioned that emergency responders swiftly secured the site, established a facility for victim reception and family support, and launched a helpline to aid those affected. Efforts are ongoing to provide medical care to the injured, with over 100 individuals reportedly being treated, some with severe injuries, and several dozen fatalities recorded. The main street in Crans is currently closed for investigative purposes.

Identification of the victims and notification of their families are underway, with Mr. Gisler emphasizing the need for time to provide precise figures on the casualties.
