Boxer Anthony Joshua Injured in Fatal Nigeria Crash

Nigerian authorities are actively searching for the driver of the truck involved in the accident that resulted in injuries to Anthony Joshua and the tragic death of his companions. The renowned British boxer was in a devastating collision near Lagos, Nigeria, when the SUV he was in collided with a stationary truck, claiming the lives of his close friends Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele while Joshua sustained minor injuries.

Joshua is currently receiving medical care in a hospital, while law enforcement has initiated an inquiry into the incident. The driver of the truck, who reportedly fled the scene, is now being sought by the police. Although the driver is at large, the authorities have located the damaged vehicle at the Sagamu car pound. The truck, registered to a Lagos-based company, exhibits significant damage, with visible police tape marking the scene.

Investigations have revealed that the truck was illegally parked prior to the accident. An official from the Nigerian police mentioned, “He was parked illegally on the roadside, not experiencing any mechanical issues, and was absent from the vehicle at the time of the collision.” Meanwhile, the driver of Joshua’s vehicle has been discharged from the hospital and is cooperating with authorities, potentially facing charges for irresponsible driving.

According to Babatunde Akinbiyi of Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, preliminary investigations indicate that overspeeding by the SUV carrying Joshua led to a burst tire on the passenger side, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with the stationary truck due to excessive speed.

Joshua is expected to remain hospitalized for a few more days as he recuperates from his injuries, with his mother by his side. Eyewitnesses described the accident involving a two-vehicle convoy, including a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV, with Joshua seated in the Lexus alongside three other occupants. Immediate assistance was provided by bystanders and officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps following the crash.
