Eddie Hearn has shared an update on Anthony Joshua, who has resumed training at the gym a few weeks after tragically losing two close friends in a car accident. The incident in Nigeria resulted in the untimely deaths of his friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Despite the harrowing experience, Joshua sustained only minor injuries after managing to avoid a fatal outcome by changing seats before the journey. Recently, the former two-time heavyweight champion was spotted back in the gym, wearing gloves once again in Dubai.
Hearn, Joshua’s long-time promoter with Matchroom Boxing, met up with Joshua and took to Instagram to express his thoughts. He commended Joshua for his resilience and strength, acknowledging the weight of the loss Joshua is carrying and emphasizing that he will take the necessary time to recover.
Following the accident, there have been uncertainties surrounding Joshua’s future in boxing. Hearn previously mentioned that Joshua would be taking an extended break from the sport.
Hearn emphasized the need to allow Joshua the space and time to heal from the traumatic event and make decisions regarding his future at his own pace. He highlighted that it’s crucial for Joshua to have the freedom to determine his next steps after such a devastating incident.
Joshua has not yet addressed the speculations concerning his boxing career. However, he paid tribute to his late friends in an emotional social media post earlier this month.
Legal proceedings against Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the accident, are set to resume on Tuesday. Kayode faces charges related to causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s license.
