Asda has introduced a new pricing commitment, offering lower prices on over 2,300 everyday items compared to Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Morrisons loyalty card rates. The reduced prices cover various categories like fresh meat, produce, chilled goods, core grocery items, and bakery products.
Additionally, Asda is running a promotion in January where shoppers will receive 10% cashback in their Asda Rewards Cashpot for all fresh produce purchases made in-store. Rachel Eyre, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, emphasized the initiative’s aim to assist families in managing their post-Christmas budgets by ensuring competitive pricing without the necessity of a loyalty card.
Following a challenging Christmas season, Asda’s market share dropped to 11.4% in the 12 weeks leading up to December 28, as reported by Worldpanel analysts. The supermarket witnessed a 4.2% decline in sales, marking its 22nd consecutive month of decreasing performance. In contrast, competitors Tesco and Sainsbury’s experienced sales growth, further solidifying their positions ahead of Asda in the UK supermarket landscape.
In response to market dynamics, Tesco recently unveiled a commitment to maintaining low prices on 3,000 branded products consistently through its Everyday Low Prices campaign.
