In a lengthy virtual meeting, the board approved the addition of Trump’s name to the façade, renaming it “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Restored and Renovated By President Donald J. Trump.” Additionally, the plaza in front of the building would bear Trump’s name, and a significant portion of the venue would undergo closure for two years to facilitate substantial renovations.
These actions, characterized by Representative Joyce Beatty and her legal team, pose a significant test to U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper. Cooper had previously ruled in May that affixing Trump’s name to the building was done unlawfully, ordering its removal, a decision that the administration unsuccessfully contested in court.
