Aldi has recently implemented price reductions on a wide range of products throughout January. The discounted items span across various categories including fresh and frozen foods, pantry essentials, household items, and personal care products.
Among the notable reductions are red lentils now priced at 99p from £1.39, porridge sachets at 79p from 99p, and organic steel cut oats at £1.99 down from £2.19. Additionally, beef and pork Bolognese mince is now priced at £4.49 from £4.79, pork and gammon joints at £3.49 from £3.99, and Specially Selected British cheese at £2.29 reduced from £2.59.
Further reductions include sweetcorn at 55p from 59p, and six large free-range eggs at £1.75 from £1.79. Shoppers can also save 50p on selected items such as no beef flank steak now at £6.99 from £7.49, and vegetable pieces and meatballs at £1.49 from £1.99.
The January price cuts represent an investment exceeding £22 million aimed at providing customers with affordable prices. Julie Ashfield, the Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the company’s commitment to offering great value without compromising on quality, particularly amidst the ongoing pressure of grocery expenses for customers.
In addition to these price reductions, Aldi has disclosed plans to open 40 new stores in the UK this year. This initiative is part of a substantial investment program totaling £1.6 billion over two years, with the goal of reaching 1,500 stores in the UK. Recent store openings in 2025 include locations like Kirkintilloch, Eastbourne, Fulham Broadway, and Deeside.
Moreover, Aldi was recognized as the cheapest supermarket in 2025 by Which? consumer rights magazine, holding the top position for ten out of 12 months. The average price difference between Aldi and Lidl throughout the year was a mere 77p. In December, Aldi remained the most affordable option with a shopping list of 68 items costing £123.60 on average, closely followed by Lidl at £123.70. Comparatively, the same items at Asda averaged £134.89, while Tesco Clubcard members paid £135.84 or £139.12 without a Clubcard.
