A popular streaming app that provided free access to a variety of content has officially shut down, adding to the Monday blues for many users. The app in question, Amazon’s Freevee platform, which was well-known for offering a range of content without subscription fees, has now transitioned its extensive catalog to Prime Video as of September 1.
Former Freevee users will now need to switch to the Prime Video app and log in with their Amazon account to continue enjoying their favorite shows, movies, and live TV. The move aims to consolidate Freevee content exclusively on Prime Video, making it the new home for Freevee TV shows and movies.
Users have been informed through a pop-up message in the Freevee app that they can still access Freevee until August 2025. They are encouraged to download Prime Video to watch their favorite Freevee Originals and other content for free, without the need for a subscription. However, some boxsets and movies may require a Prime subscription or one-time payment.
This shift may prompt former Freevee users to consider subscribing to Prime Video or renting movies. For those already using Prime Video, the consolidation of content into one app simplifies the browsing experience.
Overall, the transition from Freevee to Prime Video ensures continued access to a wide range of content, albeit with some additional offerings that may require a subscription or individual payment.
