Apple’s AirTag is a must-have for those who often misplace their belongings. These compact trackers, introduced in 2021, have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. The AirTags’ small size allows for easy attachment to keys, bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
When in proximity to the AirTag, your iPhone provides precise directions on-screen, and the AirTag can emit a sound to aid in locating it. The latest AirTag model boasts an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, enhancing its range significantly.
Apple claims that this enhancement improves Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it simpler to locate lost items from greater distances. Precision Finding is now compatible with select Apple Watch models, enabling users to track down misplaced items directly from their wrist.
Moreover, Apple has enhanced the sound capabilities of the new AirTag, with a redesigned speaker emitting sounds that are 50% louder than its predecessor. This feature is particularly useful for finding the AirTag when it’s hidden in hard-to-reach places.
The AirTags operate through Apple’s Find My network, which leverages nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously. The system has been revamped with a focus on privacy, ensuring that location history is not stored on the AirTag and all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end.
The new AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS function allowing users to securely share an item’s location with trusted parties, such as airlines, to aid in recovering lost belongings like delayed luggage. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this feature.
Interested buyers can now order the new AirTag from apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability set for later this week. Additionally, the prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, making it more affordable than the original AirTag, which debuted at £35.
