The Ottawa Rapid have appointed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer, brings a wealth of experience, having participated in three Women’s World Cups and clinched a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She has previously coached in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently in Saudi Arabia.
Moscato will be joining the team this year on a two-season contract and will focus on planning for the 2027 season, including player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato, citing her strong leadership qualities, coaching expertise, technical skills, and profound knowledge of Canadian soccer.
Commenting on her new role, Moscato emphasized her excitement to work with the Rapid, acknowledging the solid groundwork laid by the team so far. Ottawa currently leads the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 games, with their last defeat dating back to late May. The team’s upcoming match will take place in Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and fans can watch it live on CBC Gem.
