“CBC Secures Expanded Role in Canadian Curling”

CBC has secured an expanded role in Canadian curling through a fresh five-year broadcast agreement that will enhance coverage of the Grand Slam of Curling playoffs and all Rock League matches on its platforms. The deal with The Curling Group, unveiled on Thursday, promises over 300 hours of combined television programming on CBC and Sportsnet for the 2026-27 season.

A significant development for CBC is its involvement with Rock League. The professional league, which debuted in April, is set to return to CBC in January 2027. Viewers can catch every game on CBC television and CBC Gem, with select matches also airing on Radio-Canada’s ICI TOU.TV and Sportsnet on Thursdays and Fridays.

Featuring six mixed-gender franchises with curlers from various countries, Rock League’s upcoming season will include events on designated weekends in January and April, with games scheduled from Thursday to Sunday.

Additionally, CBC’s role in the Grand Slam of Curling will be expanded. Sportsnet remains the primary broadcaster for all five Grand Slam events starting in October, broadcasting three draws daily from Tuesday to Friday. On Saturdays, CBC and CBC Gem will join Sportsnet+ for playoff coverage, while Sportsnet will air the championship finals on Sundays, with CBC showcasing select finals throughout the season. Morning round-robin draws and tiebreakers from Tuesday to Saturday will continue to be live-streamed on Rock Channel.

The new agreement further solidifies CBC’s extensive history with curling and elevates its presence during major Canadian curling events. Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of sports and Olympics, expressed enthusiasm about sharing another season of Rock League with audiences nationwide. The agreements with The Curling Group are anticipated to expand the national audience for both the Grand Slam and Rock League, marking a pivotal moment for the sport, according to Nic Sulsky, CEO and co-founder of The Curling Group.

Over the next five years, Canadian viewers can look forward to increased opportunities to follow both the Grand Slam playoff weekends and the second season of Rock League on CBC.
