The proprietors of a nightclub that was engulfed in flames, resulting in the deaths of at least 47 individuals and causing injuries to 115 others, have connections to the United Kingdom, a recent revelation has shown.
Jacques Moretti and his spouse Jessica, prominent figures in the Swiss hospitality sector, established their establishment named Le Constellation in the upscale ski destination of Crans-Montana in December 2015 following a vacation in the area. Unfortunately, the venue was decimated by a fierce fire on New Year’s Day, claiming numerous lives, including young partygoers.
Mrs. Moretti’s Facebook profile indicates that she previously pursued studies at the University of Glamorgan in south Wales, among other educational institutions. The couple, rumored to have a child, currently reside on the French island of Corsica. Crans-Montana, predominantly French-speaking, lures French tourists for skiing and golf trips, with the Morettis being early visitors in 2011.
The couple introduced their bar, described as an upscale and lively space on the Crans-Montana website, in December 2015. Notably, the establishment was one of the few in the ski resort to admit individuals aged 16 and above, unlike the standard age requirement of 18 at most other venues.
Eyewitnesses have suggested that the fire was initiated by sparklers inserted into champagne bottles, although authorities are still investigating to confirm the precise cause. Mrs. Moretti reportedly sustained burns to her arm inside the nightclub during the blaze, while her husband was occupied at another of their businesses. Sources have indicated that the couple is deeply shocked by the incident.
Following the launch of Le Constellation, the Morettis expanded their restaurant ventures in Switzerland, earning a reputation as a dedicated and successful duo. Local media lauded them for their zeal and dynamism in their various projects.
Nevertheless, questions have arisen regarding the fire at Le Constellation, located in a previously abandoned structure, as worried parents continue to search for their missing adolescent children. An 18-year-old individual, Rayan Guiren, mentioned the distressing search efforts of numerous parents.
New footage has surfaced showing the fatal flashover, seemingly capturing the moment champagne sparklers ignited materials on the nightclub’s ceiling. Witnesses recounted chaotic scenes during the evacuation, underscoring the narrow staircase and the frantic rush to escape the inferno.
Police commander Frédéric Gisler confirmed that the fire originated in the bar’s basement, leading to a crush as patrons struggled to exit through the lone staircase. The investigation into the tragic incident remains ongoing.
