Double Cold Weather Payments have been distributed to select households this week following snowfall in various parts of the UK.
These Cold Weather Payments amount to £25 each and are granted when the average temperature in a specific location drops to zero degrees or lower for seven consecutive days. Multiple payments can be received if there are several prolonged periods of freezing weather.
Currently, 18 postcode areas have qualified for two Cold Weather Payments, totaling £50, triggered on December 30 and January 6. These postcode areas include:
The Mirror recently disclosed that 451 postcode areas are eligible for Cold Weather Payments this year. Individuals receiving certain benefits or mortgage support are entitled to these payments.
If eligible, the funds are automatically deposited into the recipient’s bank account within 14 working days. However, an application is required for individuals with a baby or if a child under five moves in with them.
Cold Weather Payments are administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the program is active until March 31, 2026.
In Scotland, Cold Weather Payments have been substituted with the Winter Heating Payment valued at £59.75.
