In southern Manitoba, authorities are treating the death of a four-year-old girl and the serious injuries of two toddlers at a residence as suspicious, according to the RCMP. The Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to a call at a home in Long Plain First Nation after emergency personnel reported a young child in distress with injuries at around 8 a.m. on Sunday. Tragically, the four-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other children, aged one and two, were transported to the hospital, with one initially in critical condition and the other stable, but both are now in stable condition.
Given the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the four-year-old and the severe injuries to the other children, the RCMP has assumed control of the investigation. Supt. Rob Lasson, head of Manitoba RCMP major crime services, described the incident as deeply concerning and acknowledged that the community will be seeking answers regarding the events within the household. Lasson emphasized the collaborative efforts between the RCMP, MFNPS, and community leaders to address the situation and provide support to the residents of Long Plain.
