French Bar Managers Questioned in Le Constellation Fire Inquiry

Two French bar managers have been questioned in connection with an inquiry into the fire’s origin, announced Beatrice Pilloud, the Attorney General of Valais Canton.

During a press briefing on January 2, the local prosecutor revealed that an assessment of safety protocols at the well-known bar was ongoing. Pilloud mentioned that footage had been reviewed, individuals interviewed, on-site inspections conducted, and two French bar managers interrogated, along with survivors. A list of attendees has been compiled to aid in identification.

Pilloud stated that authorities would scrutinize the safety measures and operational aspects at Le Constellation, focusing on the establishment’s ability to host patrons. The investigation will also evaluate recent renovations, construction materials, and licensing compliance at the bar.

Fire investigators will additionally assess fire safety measures and evacuation procedures. Pilloud concluded by stating that a decision on potential criminal charges would be made following a thorough examination.

At a press conference, officials confirmed that a sparkler triggered the fire at the bustling bar. Attorney General Beatrice Pilloud explained that the blaze originated from sparkler candles, also known as flares, placed atop champagne bottles positioned too close to the ceiling, resulting in a rapid spread of fire.

The devastating fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, primarily frequented by young revelers celebrating the New Year. Several harrowing accounts of chaos have emerged as patrons desperately attempted to flee the bar, suspected to have ignited due to sparklers affixed to champagne bottles.

Concerned individuals have taken to social media platforms in an effort to locate those who remain unaccounted for.
