Millions of Gmail users are set to have the option to change their email address to a new one. Google previously hinted at this update, and it is now being implemented globally. In an announcement on its Gmail blog page, Google stated that users can now switch their Google Account email from one ending in gmail.com to a different gmail.com address.
This change could be beneficial for users who wish to update their email address due to personal preferences or changed circumstances. However, Google has indicated that this feature is gradually rolling out to all users and may not be immediately available to everyone.
Under this new system, users can have both their old and new email addresses active simultaneously. Any emails sent to the current Gmail address will automatically be forwarded to the new one. Google assures that all account data, including photos, messages, and emails associated with the original address, will remain unaffected.
To check if you are eligible to switch to a new Gmail address without losing your emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Access Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Choose Email, then Google Account email.
– Click on Change Google Account email under “Google Account email.”
– If the option is not available, it means the feature is not yet accessible to you.
– Enter the new username you desire, ensuring it is not in use or previously deleted.
– Click Change email, then confirm the change by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the provided on-screen instructions.
Upon completion, your new Gmail address will become your primary account email, while the old address will be retained as an alternate email option.
