Google is introducing a new feature to Gmail that aims to simplify managing subscriptions and declutter inboxes. With the upcoming “Manage subscriptions” function, users will have a centralized area within Gmail settings to monitor their active subscriptions and track the volume of messages received from companies over recent weeks.
This feature will provide users with a convenient one-touch option to unsubscribe from subscriptions that are no longer relevant or are overwhelming. By simply tapping the unsubscribe button, Gmail will handle the process of sending an unsubscribe request to the sender.
Explaining the motivation behind this update, Google highlighted the challenge of dealing with a flood of subscription emails, such as daily deal alerts, outdated newsletters, and promotional emails from long-forgotten retailers. The “Manage subscriptions” feature aims to address this issue by offering users a streamlined way to view and manage their subscriptions, enabling easy unsubscribing from unwanted emails all from one location.
To access this feature, users can navigate to the top-left corner of their inbox and select “Manage subscriptions” from the navigation bar. Google has started rolling out the ability to manage subscriptions on web, Android, and iOS platforms in select countries.
In addition to empowering users with greater control over their email preferences, Google also emphasized its robust security measures in Gmail. The company reported blocking over 99.9% of spam, phishing, and malware, with recent AI-based defenses reducing scam emails by 35%.
