Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the newly opened Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada during its initial days of operation. The bridge, which links Windsor and Detroit, finally opened to traffic on July 27 following several weeks of delays.
According to StatCan, approximately 18,900 Canadian residents made return trips from the United States using the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days. Similarly, 18,100 U.S. residents crossed the bridge to enter Canada during the same period. In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel together witnessed a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents.
In terms of commercial traffic, StatCan reported that 4,100 commercial transport trucks entered Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the last five days of July.
