After over a decade of conducting interviews with celebrities over fried chicken on her popular YouTube show called “Chicken Shop Date,” host Amelia Dimoldenberg announced this week that she is bringing the show to a close. In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her gratitude to her followers for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes, likening the show to her own romantic comedy. She mentioned that while she never envisioned ending “Chicken Shop Date,” she feels it’s time to embark on a new adventure.
Dimoldenberg launched the show 12 years ago, initially focusing on interviewing musicians in Britain’s underground rap scene. Over time, she expanded her guest list to include celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, amassing nearly 3.5 million subscribers to her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” features Dimoldenberg going on informal dates with celebrities at fried chicken shops in London, engaging them with a mix of flirty, funny, and sometimes awkward questions. The format creates a casual and banter-filled atmosphere more akin to a first date than a traditional talk show interview. Some interactions, such as her chat with Andrew Garfield, have even led to playful flirting.
Among the notable interviews on the show are Canadians like Ryan Reynolds, who was gently corrected by Dimoldenberg when he misspoke about his wife Blake Lively’s character on “Gossip Girl.” Shania Twain also made an appearance in 2023, where she revealed she had never met Brad Pitt, despite mentioning him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Dimoldenberg’s success with “Chicken Shop Date” has opened doors for her beyond the show, including opportunities like covering the Oscars red carpet this year, where she interviewed Canadian actor Hudson Williams. Although Dimoldenberg’s future plans following the show’s conclusion remain undisclosed, she is reportedly working on developing a young adult drama series for the BBC.
In her farewell message on Instagram, Dimoldenberg hinted at a few more dates to come before bidding farewell to the show for good, leaving fans eager to see what her next chapter holds.
