Jane McDonald recently shared the news of selling her long-time Wakefield bungalow, a home she cherished for twenty years. The decision came after enduring the heartbreaking losses of her mother and fiancé in a short span of three years. Jane, aged 62, opted to part ways with Cleevethorpe House, a £1 million five-bedroom property she had meticulously renovated over the years.
Tragedy struck when Jane’s mother, Jean, passed away just before Christmas in 2018, followed by the loss of her fiancé, Eddie Rothe, to lung cancer at the age of 67 in March 2021. Jane and Eddie’s love story had begun in the 1980s when she was 17, reigniting in 2008 with a proposal later that year.
The house held too many painful memories for Jane, prompting her to let go, stating to the Daily Mail, “I found it difficult. There was too much history there.” The Loose Women presenter, originally from Yorkshire, has now acquired a smaller property in the same vicinity, in addition to a coastal retreat where she finds solace.
Jane now resides with her longtime friend Sue Ravey, a living arrangement that blossomed after Eddie’s passing. The duo’s friendship, rooted in their shared passion for singing since their twenties, has strengthened over time. Jane recounted the challenges of sorting through two decades of possessions, many linked to distressing memories, during the relocation process.
Reflecting on her past Christmas traditions, Jane acknowledged the shift towards new beginnings without her old residence serving as the festive gathering place. She emphasized the importance of embracing change and finding freedom amidst grief, highlighting the positive aspects of her evolving journey.
In a poignant moment captured during an episode of her travel series, “Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan,” viewers witnessed Jane’s emotional reaction to a fortune prediction. The traditional Japanese fortune strip brought tears to her eyes as she found solace in the encouraging words, symbolizing hope and success.
Jane’s story of resilience and adaptation resonates with many, showcasing her unwavering spirit as she navigates life’s challenges with grace and determination.
