Police have shut down a section of a major UK motorway tonight due to a “serious collision.” The incident occurred on the M11’s northbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 7. National Highways reported that three vehicles were involved in the crash.
In another separate incident, the southbound lanes of the motorway were also closed. However, the M11 is now fully open for traffic.
Following the collision, the M11 southbound lanes were closed between junctions 7 and 6. National Highways mentioned that the road closure was necessary for the safety of emergency services at the scene.
Although the northbound lanes have been reopened, the southbound lanes remain closed as emergency services continue their work. National Highways advised drivers to expect delays as congestion clears in the area.
Drivers caught within the closure are now allowed to pass the scene using the hard shoulder. National Highways reported that traffic is gradually being released.
The ongoing closure of the M11 southbound is causing traffic congestion. Additional resources are being deployed to redirect trapped vehicles at the rear of the queue.
