Storm Goretti has prompted a series of travel advisories in the UK, as snow and ice are expected to disrupt the country’s transportation system.
The first named storm of the year hit the nation on Wednesday, affecting various regions with icy and snowy conditions. The Met Office has issued yellow and amber alerts regarding the storm, particularly emphasizing the danger of travel, especially on roads covered with ice and snow.
In severely impacted areas of the UK, some services may be halted completely, with authorities advising against unnecessary travel.
According to WalOnline, Transport for Wales has informed rail passengers traveling through Wales that services will either be suspended or significantly delayed due to the storm. A significant portion of the country is under an amber snow warning, predicting snowfall of up to 30cm in certain areas.
The warning encompasses several regions including Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Powys, Rhondda, Cynon Taf, Torfaen, and Wrexham.
Transport for Wales has adjusted timetables in the most affected areas, with some services suspended from 3pm onwards. Following the warning’s activation at 8pm, services have been modified to run only once per hour.

The amber warning is in effect until 9am on Friday, with the Met Office predicting that rain from Storm Goretti will transition into snow. Snowfall is expected to initially impact hilly regions before potentially accumulating up to 30cm in certain areas.
The Met Office cautioned that heavy snow is likely on Thursday evening, starting in hilly areas and then moving to lower elevations overnight. Accumulations of 10-15 cm are anticipated widely, with the possibility of 20-30 cm in specific locations, particularly in elevated areas like Wales and the Peak District. Snow is expected to subside on Friday morning, but disruptions may persist even after snowfall ceases.
