“Vancouver Rise Bolster Defense for Key Showdown”

The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements as they gear up to face the Halifax Tides in a crucial match this weekend. The Northern Super League team has added two new defenders to their squad. Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, formerly with NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise.

Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller praised the attributes both players bring to the team, emphasizing Swaby’s physique and confidence on the field, as well as Hansen’s eagerness to contribute and her adaptability to the team’s style of play.

Swaby, 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. She highlighted her ability to remain composed in pressure situations and provide leadership on the field.

Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement at returning home to play for the Rise, stating that being close to her family again adds a special element to her homecoming. The signings of Swaby and Hansen come after the retirement of Mariah Lee, who decided to pursue a career in law, and the loaning of goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan to the Tides.

With the team currently aiming to secure a playoff spot, the Rise are focused on closing the gap with Halifax in the standings. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the importance of this phase of the season, highlighting the team’s determination to showcase their competitive spirit and make a strong push for the playoffs.
