“Canadian Swimmers Shine at Pan Pacific Championships”

Canadian swimmers Taylor Ruck and Summer McIntosh had contrasting performances at the Pan Pacific championships in Irvine, Calif. Ruck secured a silver medal in the women’s 100m butterfly and later added a bronze as part of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, bringing her total medals to five in the competition. In the 100m butterfly, the 26-year-old from Kelowna, B.C., set a personal best time of 56.71 seconds, finishing behind American Gretchen Walsh. McIntosh, on the other hand, faced disappointment after failing to qualify for the A final of the women’s 400m freestyle event, despite winning the B final. She took full responsibility for her performance, expressing frustration and determination to learn from the experience.

Ruck expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating that she trusted her preparation and felt relaxed during the races. McIntosh, still processing her setback, acknowledged the need to analyze her training and vowed to improve. Despite McIntosh’s challenges, she will compete in the 200m IM event where she holds world records and prestigious titles. Additionally, Canadian swimmers Blake Tierney and Ethan Ekk clinched silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s 200m backstroke event. Tierney highlighted the significance of both athletes sharing the podium and credited his training for his success. The Canadian team also secured a bronze in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, while the men’s team narrowly missed a podium finish. The U.S. and Australia dominated the relay events, claiming gold and silver medals.
