“Alert: EE Users Warned of Resurging Scam Texts”

EE mobile customers are being cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Security experts at Bitdefender have observed an increase in urgent messages sent to EE users, claiming that they are at risk of losing a substantial amount of EE reward points unless immediate action is taken.

According to Bitdefender, the scam involves cybercriminals impersonating EE to deceive individuals into clicking on malicious links that redirect them to fraudulent websites. These fake sites are designed to capture login credentials, enabling the scammers to profit illicitly.

The success of this scam relies on creating a sense of urgency, as scammers hope that recipients will act hastily without questioning the message’s legitimacy. Bitdefender highlighted the tactic of using tight deadlines to pressure recipients into believing they are about to lose something valuable, emphasizing that legitimate alerts from EE would only appear within users’ official accounts, not through unsolicited texts.

This type of scam has targeted EE customers in the past, with instances reported earlier this year where users received convincing fake messages regarding reward points. EE has reiterated that it does not operate a points program and has advised users to be cautious of messages containing suspicious links or requesting personal information.

EE’s latest guidance includes refraining from clicking on unknown links in text messages, avoiding responding to suspicious messages, refraining from calling the provided numbers, and never sharing personal or financial information. It is crucial for EE customers to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from falling victim to such scams.
