Irish authorities are probing a suspected murder-suicide case following the finding of a boy and a man deceased in separate residences in western Dublin.
Emergency personnel responded to a residence in the Cherry Orchard area of Ballyfermot around 8:30 am on Thursday, where the body of a 48-year-old man was located.
Subsequent investigations led to the discovery of an 11-year-old boy’s body at a property in Clondalkin. Both sites have been secured for forensic examination by the Technical Bureau of the Irish police force, An Garda Siochana.
The man’s body was reportedly found in a shed at the back of a property. The coroner has been informed, and the Office of the State Pathologist’s services have been requested. The bodies have been removed for post-mortem examinations.
A statement from the Gardaí indicated, “Gardaí are looking into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of two bodies in residential areas in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, and Clondalkin, Dublin 22, on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
“Gardaí and emergency services were summoned to a home in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot, this morning at approximately 8:30 am, where a man in his 40s was found deceased.
“In subsequent inquiries, the body of a male child was found at a residence in Clondalkin.
“Both locations have been secured for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Coroner has been notified, and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.
“The man’s body has been taken to the city morgue, while the boy’s remains are still at the scene. Post-mortem examinations will be scheduled accordingly.
“The findings of these examinations will aid Gardaí in determining the direction of the investigation. A Senior Investigating Officer is overseeing the investigation.”
