Donald Trump has issued a concerning warning, urging preparation for a “day of retribution” in Minnesota. Despite widespread disapproval of ICE’s tactics in the state, the US President has intensified the deployment of agents, specifically targeting Somali Americans, the majority of whom are US citizens.
Using his Truth Social platform, Trump asserted that Minnesota residents are facing a community overrun by convicted criminals, drug offenders, rapists, and other dangerous individuals. He defended ICE’s actions, emphasizing their mission to remove these individuals from neighborhoods and return them to prisons or mental institutions.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, ICE has been focusing on the Somali American community in Minnesota, where approximately 95% are US citizens either by birth or naturalization. Of the Somali heritage population in Minnesota, only a small fraction are undocumented migrants.
Despite reports of around 3,000 ICE agents being sent to Minnesota by the Trump administration, the ratio of agents to potential deportees is significantly skewed. Trump boasted about crime reduction in areas where ICE operations were active, attributing it to their efforts.
Trump’s rhetoric extended to accusing Minnesota Democrats of supporting unrest caused by anarchists and agitators to divert attention from alleged financial misconduct. He ominously concluded with a message of impending “retribution” for the people of Minnesota.
