Tragedy struck as a three-year-old child was fatally attacked by his grandmother’s dog after entering the pet’s outdoor enclosure, according to authorities. The young boy, Beckett Brown, was assaulted by the American Bulldog at his grandmother’s residence, where she tried to stop the dog from harming the child.
The grandmother, Kristen Nelson, 51, sustained injuries in the incident and promptly took Beckett and herself to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite their efforts, the child succumbed to his wounds. Kristen was later transferred to another medical facility for treatment. Following the investigation into the tragic event, authorities confirmed that the dog involved had been euthanised, ensuring no further safety risks to the community.
Deputies met the grandmother and child at the hospital, where it was revealed that the boy had entered an outdoor enclosure housing the adult dog. The fatal incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon near New York Mills, New York, as reported by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
In a separate incident, a mother of three tragically lost her life after being attacked by a stray dog she had taken in, which subsequently targeted her own pet. Barbara Brewington, 38, passed away shortly after the attack in the garden of her residence in Bonnetsville, North Carolina, on November 23.
According to reports, Barbara had been caring for a mixed breed stray dog she had taken in six months earlier, which suddenly turned aggressive towards her own pet, leading to the fatal attack. While her pet survived the ordeal, the stray dog was euthanised after being seized by a specialized animal control team at the scene. Barbara sustained severe injuries during the incident.
Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton stated that deputies found Ms. Brewington with critical injuries outside her home around 6:30 pm, and despite efforts to save her, she passed away. Sheriff Thornton explained to People that the incident occurred while Barbara was attempting to separate the stray dog from her pet, resulting in the fatal attack.
