Kevin Keegan, the renowned former manager of England and Newcastle, is set to undergo cancer treatment as disclosed by his family. The 74-year-old football icon, who had a distinguished playing career with England and Newcastle, transitioned into management roles at both club and national levels, with his final managerial tenure at Newcastle in 2008.
In an announcement made on Wednesday, Keegan’s family stated that he was recently hospitalized due to persistent abdominal issues, leading to a cancer diagnosis. Expressing gratitude towards the medical team for their care, the family requested privacy during this challenging period.
Newcastle, on behalf of Keegan’s family, expressed support, stating, “King Kev. We’re with you every step of the way. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery.” Keegan, who started his professional journey at Scunthorpe United in 1968, represented England in 63 matches and scored 21 goals. He gained prominence during his time at Liverpool, clinching three league titles.
Following his playing career, Keegan took on managerial roles at clubs like Fulham and Manchester City, in addition to a brief stint with the England national team before returning to lead Newcastle in 2008.
