An urgent warning has been issued to iPhone and Android users by O2 regarding a new scam targeting customers in the UK. This fraudulent message, claiming that customers’ SIM cards are at risk of deactivation due to failure to accept updated Terms and Conditions, is causing concern. The message, sent from what appears to be an official O2 number, uses urgent language like “IMPORTANT” and “NOT” to appear legitimate.
The scam message states, “O2UK: IMPORTANT: Your SIM Card(s) will be inactive on 04/06/2026, because you have NOT signed our Terms and Conditions. Logon to sign.” Along with this threat, a link is included that directs recipients to a fake website aimed at stealing personal information. Scammers may use this information to access MyO2 accounts and potentially break into other online accounts using stolen passwords.
Customers who receive such messages should avoid clicking on any links and instead verify the message’s authenticity through the official O2 website, app, or by contacting the network directly. Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, emphasized the increasing sophistication of scammers and urged vigilance in identifying and reporting suspicious messages.
O2 has offered advice to help customers stay safe, including being cautious of urgent or threatening messages, avoiding clicking on unexpected links, and changing passwords immediately if login details have been entered on suspicious sites. Staying vigilant and taking proactive measures are essential in protecting against such scams.
