A specialist from British Gas has shared advice on addressing cold spots in your radiator, with a cost-effective tool priced at just 97p.
If you notice cold spots at the top of your radiator or hear gurgling noises while the heating is slow, it might be time to bleed your radiator. This is a simple fix, but having the correct tool is crucial.
To address this issue, you will require a radiator key, available for as little as 97p at Screwfix. Bleeding your radiator involves releasing any trapped air within it.
Before starting the bleeding process, it is essential to turn off your heating system, as emphasized by Peter Knowles, a technical repair engineer at British Gas.
Ensure that the radiator has completely cooled down before commencing the process to avoid any burns from hot water.
Prepare yourself with an old towel and container to catch the water that will be released. When ready, locate the small valve on the radiator and turn it anti-clockwise using the key.

Peter advised, “Gently open the valve until you hear a hissing sound, indicating trapped air escaping. Once water starts coming out, collect it in the container. Then, close the valve and repeat the process on other radiators.”
It is crucial not to over-rotate the valve to prevent lowering the boiler pressure excessively. If problems persist, Peter suggested seeking help from a gas safe registered engineer.
