“Former Russian PM: UK and France Troop Deployment Caught Putin Off Guard”

Former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov has commented on the recent commitment by the UK and France to deploy troops in Ukraine, stating that this decision has caught Vladimir Putin off guard.

Kasyanov highlighted that the formation of a coalition willing to take action has left Putin uncertain about his next steps. This development followed statements by Keir Starmer regarding potential military installations in Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached.

Speaking on Times Radio, Kasyanov emphasized the need for Putin to adjust his approach in response to the recent developments. He noted that the coalition’s actions in Paris have reshaped the situation by prioritizing security guarantees for Ukraine and distancing themselves from Putin’s demands.

Furthermore, Kasyanov pointed out the reinforcement of transatlantic unity through the involvement of Steve Witkoff, a representative of former US President Trump. The decision to deploy troops on the ground has left Putin without a clear course of action.

The joint declaration signed by the UK, French, and Ukrainian leaders in Paris includes plans to establish secure facilities for military equipment in support of Ukraine’s defense efforts post-ceasefire.

In response to Starmer’s proposal, Putin’s associate Dmitry Rogozin criticized the idea of British troops in Ukraine, implying potential repercussions for the UK. Rogozin warned of consequences should the UK proceed with such plans.

Notably, Steve Witkoff, an envoy of former US President Trump, confirmed US support for security guarantees and readiness to protect Ukraine in the event of breaches of peace.

The proposed peace assurance blueprint involves a multinational force led by European nations, with potential involvement from non-European partners, including the US, to reinforce security measures for Ukraine.

The declaration also outlines collaboration in US-led ceasefire monitoring, sustained backing for the Ukrainian military, and assistance for Kyiv in the event of future Russian aggression.

Starmer expressed optimism about the unity shown by European and American allies, standing alongside President Zelensky for peace. While progress has been made, he acknowledged that challenges lie ahead in achieving lasting peace.
