A man aged 59 passed away following an encounter with the police in Merseyside. The incident occurred on Southport Road in Bootle on Monday, January 5, just before 12:24 pm. The individual collapsed and lost consciousness during the interaction. Despite officers administering CPR and calling for medical assistance, the man was pronounced dead in the hospital an hour later.
Merseyside Police has referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and notified the man’s family. The police department expressed condolences to the deceased’s relatives. The area on Southport Road, spanning from Aintree Road to Breeze Hill, was cordoned off as authorities responded to the scene.
According to the Liverpool Echo, witnesses observed the man receiving CPR on a driveway before being transported to the hospital. Detectives and armed police were observed at the location, conducting investigations. Residents in the area mentioned the presence of multiple police and ambulance units.
Forensic officers arrived at the scene, with paramedic bags visible on the driveway. The road closure remains in effect as investigations continue.
