Owners of Samsung Galaxy Book laptops are facing critical issues following a recent Windows 11 update by Microsoft. The update seems to have led to severe problems, including loss of access to the essential C drive. Numerous users have encountered an error message stating “C: is not accessible – Access denied.”
This access restriction has resulted in the inability to open files or run certain applications like Microsoft Outlook, Office apps, and specific web browsers. Some of the affected model numbers include NP750XGJ, NP750XGL, NP754XGJ, NP754XFG, NP754XGK, DM500SGA, DM500TDA, DM500TGA, and DM501SGA.
Microsoft has acknowledged the issue, confirming reports of Samsung device models losing C drive access post the installation of the February 2026 security update (KB5077181) and subsequent updates. Users may encounter the error preventing access to files and hindering the launch of various applications, system utilities, and Quick Assist.
The problem is suspected to be linked to Samsung’s Galaxy Connect app, which facilitates functions like screen mirroring and file sharing between Galaxy smartphones and Windows PCs. The app has been temporarily removed from the Windows app store while a solution is being developed.
Samsung has taken measures to prevent further installations of the affected Galaxy Connect application and has republished a stable prior version to avoid additional device issues. Recovery options for impacted devices are limited, and Samsung is collaborating with Microsoft to find solutions.
A timeline for the fix implementation remains uncertain. Users with Samsung PCs are advised to hold off on updating to Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. Those already on these versions are recommended to refrain from making any changes at this time.
