“UK Warns Against Interference in Greenland Amid Trump Concerns”

The UK’s Foreign Secretary emphasized that the fate of Greenland lies in the hands of the Greenlanders and Danes exclusively, with no interference from others. This statement comes amidst concerns that President Donald Trump may seek to acquire Greenland, citing national security interests. Although the White House has hinted at interest in the territory before, the issue was raised again following recent US activities in Venezuela.

Addressing the House of Commons, Yvette Cooper affirmed the sovereignty of Greenland as part of the Kingdom of Denmark. She stressed the collaboration among European partners, NATO allies, and other countries on security matters, emphasizing the autonomy of Greenland and Denmark in determining their future.

Support for Denmark’s stance was echoed by Keir Starmer, underscoring the importance of respecting the sovereignty of Greenland and Denmark. The potential annexation of Greenland was highlighted as a severe breach that could jeopardize the NATO alliance, according to former Tory Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

Concerns were also raised about the situation in Venezuela, with calls for a peaceful transition to democracy. While the US military action in Venezuela was deemed necessary by some, questions were raised about the operation’s compliance with international law.

Downing Street emphasized the safety of British nationals in Venezuela as a priority, advising them to remain in secure locations and review departure options regularly. The UK government is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the well-being of its citizens in Venezuela.
