British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has returned to England following a fatal car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. Joshua arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday evening and was subsequently taken to his residence for further recovery, as reported by The Sun.
The funeral for his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is scheduled to take place at a mosque in London tomorrow, where family and friends have been invited to a ‘janaza prayer service’ in their memory.
There is uncertainty surrounding Joshua’s attendance at the funeral, with concerns that his presence could create a spectacle. Reports indicate that Joshua narrowly escaped the tragedy by switching seats just before the fatal journey that resulted in the loss of his friends’ lives.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Kayode’s lawyer stated that the incident was an accident and that his client claims the brakes malfunctioned. It was revealed that the journey began in Lagos, with Joshua initially seated in the front but later moving to the back at the driver’s request.
Following the accident, Kayode, aged 46, was discharged from a Lagos hospital on New Year’s Eve and subsequently transferred to Abeokuta for further questioning. Joshua, after being released from the hospital, paid his respects to his deceased friends at a funeral home before their bodies were repatriated to the United Kingdom for burial.
