The UK is bracing for significant snowfall as the Met Office issues a comprehensive update, detailing the areas expected to be hit by winter weather in the coming hours. Brits are urged to exercise caution as temperatures are predicted to drop below zero, with some regions facing snow depths of up to 40cm.
Forecasts indicate that several parts of the country will experience snowfall, marking the beginning of 2026 with wintry conditions. The Met Office has issued five weather warnings for Monday morning, with snow and ice expected to affect various regions across the UK.
Affected areas include South West England, Wales, East Midlands, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, with Scotland likely to experience the most intense snowfall. Snow showers are predicted to be frequent and heavy, leading to accumulations of up to 30cm in some areas.
The Met Office advises that snow showers will persist throughout the weekend, particularly in coastal areas, before gradually easing on Monday morning. Additional snowfall of 2 to 5cm, with locally higher amounts, is possible in low-lying regions, while higher elevations could see accumulations of 15 to 30cm.
Strong winds may cause drifting snow and temporary blizzard conditions, especially in elevated areas like the northwest Highlands and Grampians. Lightning near snow showers could also pose additional risks.
