Millions of Gmail users are now receiving a significant and long-awaited update. Google has officially announced the rollout of the option to change email addresses, offering a solution for users unhappy with their current Gmail account name.
According to Google, this update enhances users’ digital identity by allowing them to modify their Google Account username, the part before @gmail.com, used for accessing various services like Gmail, Photos, and Drive.
An added benefit is that both the original and new email addresses will function concurrently, ensuring that users do not miss any incoming messages sent to either account.
Google reassures users that their account data, including photos, messages, and emails, will remain intact and unaffected by this change. However, the update is currently only available in the US, with users in the UK having to wait for its rollout.
For users in the US, Google advises accessing account settings, selecting personal info, then email, followed by Google account email. If the option to change the Google account email is visible, users can proceed to select a new and unique username. It is important to note that only one new address can be created every 12 months.
