“Justice Served: Killer of Beloved Australian Woman Convicted”

Far North Queensland, Australia, with its picturesque white sandy beaches and lush rainforest-clad mountains, was an idyllic home for Toyah Cordingley, aged 24. Toyah, an outdoor enthusiast, cherished spending time in nature, partaking in activities like swimming in waterfalls and strolling along the breathtaking coastline alongside her beloved canine companion, Indie.

Dedicated to animal welfare, Toyah worked at the Paws and Claws shelter in Port Douglas, where she provided care for cats and dogs awaiting adoption. Known for her ability to soothe even the most distressed animals, Toyah’s kind-hearted nature extended to her work at a health food and pharmacy store, where she interacted warmly with customers. In addition to her professional roles, Toyah was in a relationship with Marco and eagerly anticipating her role as a bridesmaid at her best friend’s impending wedding, radiating optimism and excitement for the future.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon on October 21, 2018, Toyah visited Rusty’s Market in Cairns before driving 40km north to Wangetti Beach to walk Indie. Despite the beach’s secluded setting, the presence of a busy highway nearby and fellow dog walkers provided a sense of community and safety. Concern arose when Toyah failed to return from her walk, prompting her boyfriend Marco to contact her family upon discovering her car still parked at the beach. Subsequent search efforts led to the heartbreaking discovery of Toyah’s lifeless body under a tree, with Indie found nearby, tied tightly to a tree.

Tragically, Toyah had sustained over 26 stab wounds, ultimately succumbing to her injuries. The community was left devastated by the heinous act, rallying together to honor Toyah’s memory through various tributes and memorials. Despite exhaustive investigative efforts, including the identification of a suspect through DNA evidence, justice for Toyah remained elusive for years.

After a prolonged legal battle, Rajwinder Singh, a suspect in Toyah’s murder, was apprehended following an international manhunt. Singh’s trial, marked by harrowing testimony and revelations, culminated in his conviction for murder. The court proceedings shed light on the events leading to Toyah’s tragic demise, offering some closure to her grieving family and community.

Singh, described by the judge as a “gutless coward,” was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years. Toyah’s legacy lives on through the unwavering support of her community, who continue to commemorate her life through acts of remembrance and solidarity.
