JD Vance criticized a shooting victim in a controversial, baseless tirade, labeling her as “brainwashed” and “radicalized” while holding her accountable for her own demise.
The US Vice President expressed a desire to “lower the tension” following the tragic death of Renee Good at the hands of an ICE agent in Minneapolis. However, during a sudden press briefing at the White House, he accused the 37-year-old mother of three of intentionally attempting to strike the shooter, who he claimed acted in self-defense. He characterized her passing as a “tragedy of her own creation.”
This incident unfolded after former President Donald Trump alleged that the shooter had sustained injuries during the altercation and sought medical treatment at a hospital, despite video evidence showing him walking around the crime scene before driving away. When questioned about potentially biasing an ongoing investigation, Trump dismissed any concerns.
Despite widespread contradiction from sources outside the Trump administration, he insisted that his account of events was accurate. Video footage indicates that Good was trying to maneuver away from the agent when he discharged his weapon.
Trump further asserted, without substantiation, that Good was affiliated with a “radical left network” striving to impede ICE operations targeting noncitizen deportations. He claimed she had been “brainwashed” and “radicalized,” although local reports and her ex-husband’s statement suggest otherwise.
In response to queries challenging his conclusions, Trump maintained that the video evidence clearly showed Good’s vehicle heading towards the agent. He also criticized the media for omitting the fact that the agent had allegedly been struck by vehicles on two previous occasions, a detail that cannot be verified as the agent remains unnamed.
Refuting any portrayal of Good as an innocent victim, Trump contended that her actions were not justifiable. He commended the alleged shooter and criticized the media for not acknowledging his supposed heroism.
When asked about the alleged network responsible for influencing Good, Trump indicated that it was a matter requiring further investigation. The Homeland Security Secretary confirmed that local authorities would not participate in the inquiry, asserting that Minnesota lacked jurisdiction. The FBI, under the supervision of Trump appointee Kash Patel, will exclusively lead the investigation.
