In a message to Mirror Online, BT emphasizes the urgency for customers to act promptly, reminding them that support is available during the final year of the nationwide upgrade. Neglecting communication from service providers could result in disruptions to phone and broadband services as the deadline approaches.
The era of copper wires is drawing to a close, underscoring the importance for individuals to ensure their landline and home phone systems are prepared for the impending changes. Fortunately, switching to digital services is straightforward for most BT users, with existing handsets compatible with digital landlines. Maintaining existing phone numbers and stable pricing are assured, with minimal setup required in many cases by connecting the home phone to the broadband hub instead of the traditional wall socket. For cases where this setup proves challenging, contacting the provider or scheduling an engineer visit may be necessary.
BT also urges customers with special requirements, such as those using telecare devices or pendant alarms, to notify their provider promptly to arrange appropriate support. To ascertain whether the transition has been completed, individuals are advised to verify their readiness before the copper network is retired.
