Canada is gearing up for its first-ever appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest, where the chosen artist will have a significant impact on the country’s debut performance. The selection process for the Canadian representative is now open for talented performers to apply, with notable contenders already expressing their interest.
Among the potential competitors are Rêve, a Juno Award-winning artist for Dance Recording of the Year, Talk, who won the Juno for breakthrough artist of the year in 2024, and bbno$, the recipient of the Fan Choice Juno in both 2025 and 2026.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, aged 18 or older by May 1, 2027, possess strong vocal abilities, and be proficient in both English and French. The application process includes submitting two videos showcasing their talent and passion for Eurovision.
The selection committee, led by Jennifer Dettman, CBC/Radio-Canada’s head of delegation for Eurovision, will assess the applicants and shortlist finalists. The chosen artist will have the opportunity to participate in the songwriting process and prepare for the Eurovision Grand Final in May.
While experienced artists are currently favored for the selection, Dettman encourages emerging talents to participate. The final decision will be made through a combination of public online voting and a jury vote, with the chosen artist set to represent Canada on the international stage.
As preparations intensify, the selected artist will be engaged in various activities leading up to the Eurovision Song Contest, including music video production and rehearsals. Despite the hard work involved, participants can look forward to significant exposure on a global scale, making Eurovision a valuable platform for showcasing their talent.
