Renowned broadcaster Jamil Azar, known for his extensive career at BBC and Al Jazeera, has passed away. Azar, who initially worked as a teacher before joining BBC World Service Arabic Radio in 1965, dedicated over 50 years to journalism.
During his tenure at BBC, spanning over three decades, Azar served various roles including Arabic news editor and current affairs presenter. He was also instrumental in producing notable programs like Politics Between The Questioner And The Respondent and Arab Affairs In The British Press.
Transitioning to Al Jazeera in 1996, Azar became a key figure at the network, serving as chief anchor, editor-in-chief, and a member of the editorial board. His contributions included hosting the channel’s inaugural post-launch program, The Week In The News, before retiring in 2011.
