As Storm Goretti engulfs the UK, amber weather warnings have been issued nationwide, marking it as a ‘multi hazard’ weather event. Additionally, a red warning, signifying a danger to life, has been specifically issued for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. To ensure public safety, emergency alerts have been sent to hundreds of thousands of individuals in these areas advising them to remain indoors.

The Midlands region could experience up to 30cm of snow in the upcoming hours as Storm Goretti advances from the southwest, ushering in wintry weather conditions. Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill cautioned that the storm would bring a combination of “wet, windy, and wintry weather” to various parts of the UK.
Burkill elaborated that Storm Goretti, named by Meteo France, is expected to bring “strong winds and significant snowfall to central and potentially southern areas.” He further explained, “As the rain collides with the cold air currently prevailing over the region, significant snowfall is likely along the northern perimeters, particularly as we progress into tomorrow and Friday.”
The UK Health Security Agency has issued amber cold weather health alerts effective until 11 January, projecting severe repercussions on health and social care services. The alerts anticipate a rise in mortality rates, particularly among individuals aged 65 and above or those with underlying health conditions, with potential impacts extending to younger demographics.

By 9 pm, heavy snowfall is predicted in Wales and the Midlands, with Birmingham expected to experience snow accumulation exceeding two inches per hour.
London, Essex, and Kent are forecasted to face heavy rainfall around midnight tonight.
Early Friday morning will bring Arctic conditions to parts of Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.
While conditions are projected to improve in Wales and the East Midlands, the storm will persist in eastern regions at 6 am.
As the storm moves towards East Anglia and heads towards the continent, isolated snow showers are anticipated in Lancashire, the northeast, and Suffolk.
The impact of the storm will still be felt in various parts of the country by noon tomorrow.
