“US Secretary of State to Discuss Greenland Proposal with Denmark”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to hold discussions with Danish representatives regarding President Donald Trump’s proposal concerning Greenland. Rubio informed journalists of the upcoming meeting during a press briefing earlier today.

The White House recently confirmed Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland before the conclusion of his term in office. While Trump’s preference is to negotiate the purchase of Greenland from Denmark, the Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, mentioned that if Denmark declines, the President is willing to consider using the US military to secure the territory.

According to Leavitt, Trump views obtaining Greenland as a critical national security objective for the United States, essential for deterring potential threats in the Arctic region. She emphasized that the administration is exploring various strategies to achieve this foreign policy aim, including the option of military intervention, which remains at the discretion of the Commander in Chief.

This development follows Trump’s response to European leaders who criticized his pursuit of Greenland, with Denmark cautioning that such an annexation could jeopardize the NATO alliance. In a defensive statement on Truth Social, Trump suggested that NATO might not offer support when needed, despite NATO invoking its collective defense clause solely in support of the US following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with Norway for not awarding him the Nobel Prize, insinuating that China and Russia would not fear NATO without US involvement. However, he affirmed the US’s commitment to NATO, declaring, “We will always stand by NATO, even if they do not reciprocate.”
