Anthony Joshua’s Friends Die in Accident; Boxer Unhurt

Anthony Joshua narrowly avoided tragedy by changing seats just before a fatal accident claimed the lives of two of his friends. The incident occurred on Monday, resulting in the deaths of Joshua’s companions while the boxer sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, with his lawyer stating that the brakes allegedly failed.

Reports revealed that Joshua initially sat in the front seat but switched places with the driver due to visibility issues. The journey began in Lagos, and there was a seat rearrangement involving Joshua and another passenger. The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with multiple offenses, including driving without due care and without a valid driver’s license.

Following the accident, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the charges against Kayode, with the case adjourned to January 20. The police statement mentioned the legal proceedings and highlighted the details of the case. Joshua, who was on vacation in Nigeria after his recent victory in Miami, mourned the loss of his friends, who had been part of his inner circle.

Notable figures from the boxing world, including Eddie Hearn, Tony Bellew, Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, and Wladimir Klitschko, expressed their condolences for the tragic incident. Joshua was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve and has not yet addressed the accident publicly. A statement from the Lagos state commissioner confirmed Joshua’s release and his visit to pay respects at a funeral home in Lagos.
