Vile baby killer Lucy Letby marked her 36th birthday in solitary confinement at HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey, where she is serving 15 life sentences for the deaths of seven infants. Despite receiving letters from her supporters, Letby spent a desolate birthday surrounded by fellow criminals, including Sara Sharif’s killer Beniash Batool and child sex ringleader Marie Black.
Her defense barrister, Mark McDonald, described her birthday as “bleak” and her overall prison life as a “bleak existence.” Although Letby’s supporters maintain her innocence, a panel of experts claimed to possess evidence exonerating her, attributing the deaths to substandard medical care and natural causes.
However, these claims were dismissed by the parent of one victim as a “publicity stunt,” with other lawyers criticizing the findings as flawed and a rehash of the defense case. Dr. Shoo Lee, the panel chairman, aimed to provide comfort with the evidence, but the parent of a deceased baby criticized the effort as disrespectful and unnecessary.
McDonald emphasized the importance of expert reports in overturning Letby’s conviction, stating that she adamantly denies the crimes she was accused of committing. He highlighted a press conference held last year where neonatology experts concluded that no crimes were committed in the neonatal unit Letby worked in, attributing the infant deaths to systemic issues in the hospital.
In a surprising statement, McDonald claimed that Letby, dubbed the “angel of death” for injecting air into babies’ bloodstreams, actually “loves children.”
