A woman has admitted guilt in a disturbing case of child sexual abuse, following the discovery of disturbing videos at her residence, including instances of bestiality.
Ohio Crimes Against Children Task Force alerted detectives in July about potential child molestation at Shawna Mayfield, 28, and Justin Mayfield, 37’s home. Upon searching the property, authorities found child sexual abuse materials in Shawna Mayfield’s possession, which she had shared, produced, and replicated.
In what has been described as a substantial amount of evidence against the couple, video footage showed Mrs. Mayfield sexually assaulting a four-year-old child and both Mayfields coercing another child into adult activities. Messages between the Mayfields revealed them bragging about exchanging child abuse videos, while additional footage depicted Mrs. Mayfield engaging in a sexual act with the family dog in May of 2025, as per an indictment obtained by WFMJ.
Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman, as reported by WKBN, stated that the state discovered videos of the defendant engaging in sexual acts with an animal, specifically a dog, and also unveiled an excessive marijuana grow during the search at the premises.
On January 7, Mrs. Mayfield, facing multiple charges including pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, rape, sexual conduct with an animal, and endangering children, changed her plea to guilty. In a plea agreement, Mrs. Mayfield, from Warren, Ohio, agreed to cooperate with authorities and testify against her husband in return for a recommended prison sentence of 30 years to life. Sentencing will occur at a later date.
According to Tribune Chronicle, Mrs. Mayfield, with no prior criminal record, provided a statement on the record regarding her testimony. Failure to cooperate will nullify the plea agreement, leading to potential conviction on all charges, including those to be dismissed in the deal.
Her rape convictions spanned from June 2023 to August 2025, with each count carrying a penalty of 10 years to life in prison. Sexual conduct with an animal is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail.
Mr. Mayfield faces multiple rape charges, one charge of distributing harmful material to minors, and four counts of endangering children. Prosecutors offered him a plea deal of 50 years to life, which his attorney is contesting.
Attorney Brendan Keating argued for a sentence similar to Mrs. Mayfield’s, who faces more charges, requesting the state to reconsider the proposed prison term.
Mr. Mayfield is scheduled for a court appearance on January 12, with his trial set to commence later this month.
