The individual facing charges in connection with the tragic car accident involving Anthony Joshua has made a court appearance in Nigeria. The incident led to the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, when their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry near Lagos on December 29. Despite sustaining injuries, the former heavyweight champion survived and was hospitalized.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared at Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state near Lagos, with his case adjourned to March 13. He had previously appeared in court on January 20 on charges of causing death by dangerous driving and reckless and negligent driving. Kayode, who has not yet entered a plea, was released on bail of approximately £2,600. In addition to the aforementioned charges, he also faces allegations of driving without due care and driving without a valid driver’s license, potentially leading to a life sentence. Prosecutors requested more time to gather evidence.
Following the accident, Joshua narrowly escaped death and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve. He has since returned to the UK and is undergoing rehabilitation. Joshua expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received during his recovery, acknowledging the loss of his friends and the impact it has had on their loved ones and himself.
